Privacy Policy
mdWOW ("we", "us") runs the markdown viewer and editor at mdwow.com. This policy explains what data we collect and why. The short version: we collect as little as possible, and we never sell it.
1. What we collect
Without an account — nothing personal. Files you open are processed entirely in your browser; they are never uploaded unless you press Save.
With an account — your email address, a hashed password (we cannot read it), the documents you choose to save, and basic timestamps such as your last login.
Contact form — the name, email address, and message you submit, so we can reply.
2. How we use it
To operate your account, store and show you your documents, send you security codes when you log in, and answer your messages. That's it — no advertising profiles, no selling of data, no spam.
3. Emails
We send verification and login codes through Mailjet, our email delivery provider. Your email address is shared with Mailjet only for the purpose of delivering these messages. We do not send marketing email.
4. Cookies
We use one essential session cookie to keep you logged in. Optional cookies (such as analytics) are off by default — you can manage them on the Privacy and cookie settings page.
5. What we measure (analytics)
We run our own first-party, privacy-first analytics — no Google Analytics, no third-party trackers, no cross-site cookies, nothing sent to anyone else. We count pageviews and, for each visit, the referring site and any campaign tags (utm_*) in the link you arrived from, plus a coarse device/browser type. This is how we learn which articles and links are useful.
We never store your IP address. To count unique visitors for a day without identifying you, your IP and browser are combined into a one-way daily hash that cannot be reversed and is different every day. By default this is entirely cookieless. A short-lived (~30 minute) session cookie is only set if you turn on Analytics in cookie settings, and we honour the browser Do Not Track / Global Privacy Control signal. Raw event logs are automatically deleted after a few months; only anonymous daily totals are kept.
6. Storage & security
Data is stored in our database with passwords hashed (bcrypt) and login codes hashed and time-limited. Connections to the site are encrypted with HTTPS. Documents you save are private to your account.
7. Your rights
You can delete any saved document at any time from your Library. To delete your entire account and all associated data, or to request a copy of your data, just contact us — we'll handle it promptly.
8. Children
mdWOW is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
9. Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date above. Significant changes will be highlighted on the site.
